Flow meter calibration and more: The systec Controls calibration laboratory has extensive facilities for flow meter calibration and environmental testing with traceable flow, pressure, temperature, current and voltage standards. Our experts not only use these for their own development tasks, but also offer our customers a cost-effective and reliable service in our calibration laboratory.

Certifications and standards: from ISO 9001 to DAkkS

All instruments in our calibration laboratory are traceable to national standards in accordance with ISO 9001. DAkkS accreditation is in progress. All calibrations are performed in accordance with EN ISO 17025.

Our calibration laboratory: equipped for high-precision flow meter calibration

Our calibration laboratory performs accurate flow meter calibrations with air from 0.5 to 3800 kg/h with an uncertainty of only 0.25-0.36%. We calibrate water flow rates from 0.3 (0.03 lower range value) to 110 t/h with an uncertainty of only 0.05% in our calibration laboratory.

This means that in our Calibration laboratory a wide range of industrial flow meters can be perfectly calibrated:

  • Differential pressure flow meters such as orifice plates, venturis, dynamic pressure probes, V-cones, etc.
  • Swirl or vortex flow meters.
  • Magnetic inductive flow meters (MIDs).
  • Ultrasonic flowmeters with clamp-on or wetted sensors.
  • Turbines, quantometers, oval gear meters, etc.

Our analogue pressure primary standards, a bed manometer, a floating ball manometer and a calibration laboratory pressure balance offer an uncertainty of 0.02 mbar or 0.01% over the range 0.1 mbar to 250,000 mbar. They are ideal for checking and recalibrating differential and pressure transmitters.

Calibration laboratory for flow meter calibration

In addition to flow meter calibration in our calibration laboratory, we perform key environmental tests including temperature, humidity, vibration and salt spray. We have eight environmental chambers to test your equipment in a temperature range from -70°C to +200°C at a defined humidity. In our climatic shock chamber, devices can go from -70°C to +200°C in two seconds, automatically and over a number of cycles that you can define.

Small devices and PCBs can be accelerated at up to 2kHz and up to 20g on the shaker in the calibration laboratory. Both vibration and shock tests are possible.

In the salt spray chamber, we test the resistance of your device against salt spray.

We can perform many tests and calibrations on live or pressurised equipment.

These tests are essential for evaluating equipment used in harsh environments, such as automotive sensors or outdoor equipment. DAkkS-compliant tests are also possible. An independent test and calibration laboratory is essential for this type of testing.

Our climatic chambers are regularly maintained by the manufacturer and their physical conditions are traceably tested.

We carry out ISO 9001 calibrations and environmental tests quickly, professionally and cost-effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Calibration Laboratory

1. Why use the systec Controls calibration laboratory for flow meter calibration?

The systec Controls Calibration Laboratory offers flow meter calibration standards for air in the diameter range from 2 mm to approx. DN300 and for water between DN10 and DN100. For air, flow meter calibration can be performed with atmospheric air (DN20..DN300) or with compressed air. This is ideal for calibrating various flow meters – for example vortex, ultrasonic, thermal or differential pressure based flow meters such as orifice plates, venturis or dynamic pressure probes. Transferability to other media is often possible but depends on the measuring principle. We will be happy to advise you.

For smaller flow rates and diameters, we are able to calibrate with atmospheric air or pressurised gases up to a pressure of 8 bar. Our water test bench enables us to perform precise calibrations with liquids.

As well as measuring flow, our calibration services also include the calibration of absolute pressure, gauge pressure and differential pressure transmitters.

2. How can I use the calibration laboratory?

Getting to use our calibration laboratory is easy: Let us know which instrument (manufacturer, type, manual and parameterisation if applicable) you would like to have calibrated and when. We will check when the next suitable dates are available and send you an offer. You accept the offer and make an appointment. You send us the equipment to be tested and we carry out the tests on our own or with you on the agreed date.

3. To use the calibration laboratory, do I need to have already purchased products from systec Controls?

No - our calibration laboratory with its flow meter calibration and other services is open to everyone, regardless of whether you already use systec Controls products. We calibrate independently of manufacturers and, in addition to calibrations, we also offer environmental testing and recalibration of a wide range of measuring instruments.

4. Which services does the calibration laboratory offer, in addition to flow meter calibration?

Our calibration laboratory covers a broad spectrum: (re)calibrations and tests for a wide range of flowmeters - gas, vapour or liquid, clamp-on or wetted, ultrasonic or differential pressure.
We also offer environmental testing: In our environmental chambers, instruments can be subjected to specific temperature changes, humidity, vibration or salt spray, depending on your requirements.

5. What kind of equipment is available in the calibration laboratory?

We offer flow meter calibrations for gas, vapour and liquid flow meters - with and without clamp-on technology. Our metrology is fully traceable to national standards in accordance with ISO 9001.
In our calibration laboratory, we have primary pressure standards for calibrating differential pressure transmitters, including a Betz manometer (40 cmWS) and a floating ball manometer with extremely low uncertainty of measurement (down to 0.02 mbar or 0.01% at 0.2500 mbar) - drift-free and highly accurate.
We perform environmental testing using climatic chambers, climatic shock chambers and shakers - energised or pressure-superimposed tests are also available.

6. What certifications does the calibration laboratory have?

All our flow meter calibrations are carried out in accordance with EN ISO 17025, with full traceability of instruments to national standards in accordance with ISO 9001. Our climatic chambers are regularly serviced by the manufacturer and the physical conditions are closely monitored. DAkkS accreditation of our calibration laboratory is in progress.

7. Is a DAkkS certification available or is it possible?

Not yet - DAkkS accreditation is in progress. However, we already perform our flow meter calibrations under conditions equivalent to DAkkS certification.

8. Is the calibration laboratory ISO 9001 certified for flow meter calibration?

Yes. systec Controls has been ISO 9001 certified for many years - naturally also for all services in the calibration laboratory. All flow meter calibrations comply with the EN ISO 17025 standard with traceability to national standards. DAkkS accreditation is in preparation.
